Advent & Christmas Seasons
Advent and Christmas Seasons
What we did in the session this week 12/03/24
Here is the audio from class last night including our best news report of the news from Nazareth, the Hill Country and Bethlehem based on our readings of all the Scriptures surrounding Advent and Christmas!
All of the following wonderful Advent Resources for your enrichment at home can be found on formed.org (make sure you are signed into your free account from St. Vincent's for the links to work).
In Adore, popular author and speaker Fr. John Burns and illustrator Valerie Delgado of Pax.Valerie will help you reclaim the sacred sense of longing and joyful hope at the heart of Advent, focusing on a new theme each week—vigilance, preparation, nearness, and Emmanuel—that you can relate to your own life.
Advent series with Sr. Miriam -- Short weekly videos and guides to enter into a prayer experience for healing our hearts this Advent.
Mary of Nazareth -- excellent full length movie containing the Annunciation and Christmas stories in the first half. Made in 2014. Pope Benedict said it was his favorite rendition of Mary in any movie.
Scriptures for Prayer this Week (all the Christmas and Advent Scriptures in order of the story)
Luke 1: 5-25 Announcement of the birth of John
Luke 1: 26-55 Announcement of the Birth of Jesus through Mary’s Magnificat
Luke 1: 56-80 Birth of John the Baptist and Zechariah’s prophecy
Matthew 1: 18-25 Birth of Jesus in Matthew (Joseph’s reaction)
Luke 2: 1-19 Birth of Jesus and visit of the shepherds
Matthew 2: 1-12 The visit of the Magi - they return another way
Matthew 2: 13-23 The flight to Egypt through the return
*Some of these are very long -- it's recommended that you take it slow, picture yourself in the scene, talk to the Holy Spirit about it and write what you hear Him say. Don't feel like you need to do the full reading in a day. On the other hand, there can also be benefit to reading all of the above readings back to back in one sitting to kind of getting the full picture of the story as it is in chronological order from the two sources we have--Matthew and Luke.
